Introduction:
V.P. Alan Symmons will present a review of the lessons learned from the 25+ year history of LightPath Technologies along with his own personal experiences in the industry. The discussion will focus on an overview of dealing with change, acquisitions, innovation, global workforces, working as a public company and what it takes to survive in the optics and photonics industry. The intent is for an open forum and will follow with a question and answer session.
LightPath Technologies, Inc. is a global manufacturer, distributor and integrator of proprietary optical components and high-level assemblies. LightPath was incorporated under Delaware Law in June, 1992, and has been in business for over 25 years innovating and producing optical solutions for a broad range of market applications including industrial, communications, medical, defense, testing, and measurement. LightPath is headquartered in Orlando, Florida, and has a wholly-owned manufacturing subsidiary, LightPath Optical Instrumentation Co. Ltd., in Shanghai, China. LightPath produces many different types of optical components and is well known as the inventor of axial gradient index optics and fiber fused collimators and is widely regarded as the world’s experts in Precision Glass Molding. LightPath has issued over 50 patents and has more than 30 technical publications during its history.

Biography:
Alan Symmons is the Vice President of Corporate Engineering of LightPath Technologies, a position he has held since 2010. He joined LightPath in 2006 after serving as Engineering Manager at Aurora Optical, a cell phone camera module manufacturer and as Engineering Manager at Applied Image Group – Optics, a leading manufacturer of injection molded plastic optics. He has over 14 years in the Molded optics field and recently published a chapter in the book; “Molded Optics:Design and Manufacture”, the first substantial published work on precision glass molding. Alan has a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master’s in Business Administration from the Eller School of Management at the University of Arizona. He is a Senior Member of SPIE, a member of OSA and active in the Florida Photonics Cluster.
